Summer's Stead

Gaze ahead in summer's stead
a brighter shade of night
seasons slide as time goes by
and hides her true delights
An eye to see with piety
a heart so wrapped ablaze
still with hope as time revokes
the fruit from youthful days
Like rust and moth and fury wroth
it seems we all decay
none foreseen a shine so clean
serene to soul persuade
Lying back as time exacts
a penance sentence past
moments falling from our lives
we'll never dare to dance
Still thoughts to sway in tall array
and play in heart's delight
to gaze ahead in summer's stead
a brighter shade of night
